Platform: Turbocharger Final Assembly and Test System
Customer: Cummins Turbo Technologies
Application: UEC specified, designed, and fabricated a complex final assembly station for the latest turbocharger designed by Cummins Turbo Technologies.
After the compressor housing was placed into the assembly fixture the system automatically oriented the housing for insertion of the shaft and wheel. Once the shaft and wheel were placed into the housing the system pressed the drive gear onto the shaft and measured the end play to within 3 microns. The system then reoriented the assembly to measure the force required to turn the shaft to insure smooth operation. Finally the system marked the part with a model & serial number.
Value Added:
- Integrated three assembly stations into one reducing assembly labor by 2 assemblers per shift.
