UEC Electronics TSOA Report

March 8th 2019, Quantico, VA. UEC Electronics successfully executed a weeklong exercise with their Mobile Electric Hybrid Power Sources (MEHPS) system at the Army’s Technical Support and Operational Analysis (TSOA) event.  The MEHPS is a Marine Corps 10 kilowatt (kW) hybrid-power solution designed to deliver power redundancy, fuel savings, and better reliability to traditional fuel-fired generators.

The MEHPS trailer was towed over 500 miles to Quantico, VA, traversed unimproved roads to the test site, and cranked up the first time in sub-zero temperatures with no reliability or maintenance issues.

During the evaluation, MEHPS powered varying loads ranging from 1.5kW – 6kW throughout the week including portable heaters, network switches, servers, laptops, printers, lights, and 50 radio charging stations.

MEHPS was left unattended overnight in sub-zero temperatures – the results were exceptional!  During the unattended period no power drops or faults were experienced and only a single gallon of fuel was consumed in a 10-hour period.   Dr. Philip Stone, Electrical Engineer and MEHPS design engineer said, “Power can’t be seen, but when it’s not available, missions fail – MEHPS is a game changer for the US Military.”  Joe Porter, Electrical Engineer and MEHPS design engineer agreed, “The fuel savings exceeded our expectations, in part due to the amount of solar collection we were able to capture during the partly cloudy cold days.”  David Taylor, Director of Business Development for Army programs offered, “Both the Marine Corps and Army are evaluating the MEHPS solution to determine where this critical capability will best support the warfighter.”

A second, test event is scheduled to begin in late April.  MEHPS will be evaluated in the US Army’s Maneuver Support, Sustainment, and Protection Integration Experiment (MSSPIX) 19 held in Fort Leonard Wood, MO in late April.

UEC Electronics Nominated for the 2018 Defense Security Service Award for Excellence

March 14, 2019, Hanahan, SC. As Governments, companies and individuals vie to steal US Defense and National Security Technology, US Companies have to be aggressive in their approaches to safeguarding critical information.  Threats are encountered from foreign and domestic entities alike.  UEC Electronics has been singled out by the Defense Security Service (DSS) for their vigilance in thwarting threats and protecting US Defense and National Security Technology.

UEC Electronics was nominated for the 2018 DSS Award for Excellence in Counterintelligence from a field of 10,000 cleared companies falling under the National Industrial Security Program.  After a multi-stage, highly competitive vetting and selection process, UEC Electronics was one of only six companies elevated to the final selection phase.

Achieving a “Finalist” ranking is an extraordinary accomplishment. UEC Electronics’ nomination was the culmination of an effective security program that includes vetting and reporting of visitors, suspicious and unsolicited contacts, monitoring of networks, a collaborative insider threat training program, and a compliant AS5553 Counterfeit Materials Control Program.

The Facility Security Officer and Director of Strategic Planning, Nancy Straight, said, “Keeping counterfeit parts out of the DoD Supply chain, while effectively protecting critical information is everyone’s responsibility.”  UEC Electronics’ President, David Modeen added, “UEC Electronics demonstrates what is best about the US Manufacturing Industrial base.  We were pleased to receive the recognition from DSS for our employee’s proactive efforts.”

UEC Electronics Salutes the Covina Police Department, Covina CA

The Covina Police Department in California has recently received six Generation I Ground Renewable Expeditionary Energy Network Systems (GREENS) from the Department of Defense. The GREENS collect solar energy, convert that energy to useable power, and stores any excess energy in batteries.

The United States Marine Corps had replaced their Generation I systems with GREENS Generation II in 2016.  The Covina Police Department intends to use these older GREENS systems as a backup power system for disaster preparedness and/or emergency response.  Although the DOD transferred systems to local law enforcement agencies, the systems did not include any of the intelligent batteries originally provided to the Marine Corps.

The staff of the Covina Police Department was undeterred, and modified the system to work with commercially available lead acid batteries.  Way to go Covina PD!  Should a catastrophic event happen, this police department is ready and able to continue to power emergency systems to serve and protect their community for an extended period of time without fuel.

For other state and local law enforcement agencies, the DoD’s 1033 Program permits the Secretary of Defense to transfer, without charge, excess US Department of Defense property to state and local law enforcement agencies. Additional information about this program can be found here:  http://www.dla.mil/DispositionServices/Offers/Reutilization/LawEnforcement/JoinTheProgram.aspx

UEC Electronics is thrilled to see these older systems rescued from an early retirement in Covina, California and is impressed with the technical acumen of the police department.

UEC Electronics awarded $3M contract for GREENS

Hanahan, South Carolina – August 15, 2017 –  UEC Electronics has received a $3 million order for their Ground Renewable Expeditionary Energy Network Systems (GREENS) to power US Army mission critical systems deployed throughout the world.  The GREENS collects solar energy, converts that energy to useable power and stores excess energy in high density batteries.  The system delivers clean, stable, silent power 24-hours per day and has been used extensively by the US Marine Corps both domestically and internationally.

Nancy Straight, Director of Strategic Planning at UEC commented, “We are thrilled to see the Army embracing the benefits of renewable power generation.  Enabling operational forces to untether from their fuel resupply trucks, while meeting their power demands through renewable sources delivers the unfair advantage we want our military forces to have.  This order is a reflection of the increased traction we are experiencing within a multitude of US Army applications.”

This GREENS order will be delivered to operational forces before the end of this calendar year.
